Ruth Bader Ginsburg Hall
Ruth Bader Ginsburg (1933 - 2020), a lawyer and jurist who paved the way for women's equality, taught at Rutgers Law School-Newark 1963 to 1972. A pioneer in teaching women's rights law, she co-founded the Women's Rights Law Reporter, the nation's first gender equality and justice law journal. She was one of the council in the U.S. Supreme Court case Reed v. Reed establishing that discrimination "on the basis of sex" violates the equal protection clause of the 14th Amendment. She argued five more gender discrimination cases before the Supreme Court, served 13 years on the U.S. Court of Appeals and in 1993 became the second woman appointed to the Supreme Court, gaining renown for her incisive opinions and dissents. In recognition of her achievements, Rutgers University named this building after Ruth Bader Ginsburg in December 2020.
