1. The Coconut Grove Sailing Club Marker

Inscription. The Coconut Grove Sailing Club was organized by a group of men, women and children in December of 1945. With 72 Charter Members the club was focused on promoting sailing, sailboat racing and water safety. The Club originally occupied a small, prefabricated building, on waterfront land leased from the City of Miami, which was replaced in 1982 with the current building. The Club continues to fulfill its original mission, having taught thousands of community youth and adults to sail, including national sailing champions. Today the Club also hosts major national and international regattas, which bring youth and adult participants from around the world to Coconut Grove.
