Admiral Memorial Circle commemorates the outstanding military achievement of Admiral Carlisle A. H. Trost. Admiral Treat attended Columbia Elementary School, Dupo High School and Washington University - St. Louis. Columbia was his home until he graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1953, first in his class. His military carcer culminated as the United States Navy's twenty-third Chief of Naval Operations (1986-1990).
Admiral Trost was a decorated nuclear submariner of the cold war era. His military awards included the Defense Distinguished Service Medal (2 awards). Navy Distinguished Service Medal 3 awards) Army Distinguished Service Medal, Air Force Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit (3 awards), Navy Achievement Medal, numerous service and campaign ribbons and awards including both Navy and Meritorious Unit commendations, and personal decorations from Korea, Japan, Germany, France, Sweden, Pakistan and Norway. During his career, he held several command assignments. including Commander, U.S. Seventh Fleet; Commander in Chief, U.S. Atlantic Fleet and Deputy Commander in Chief, U.S. Atlantic Command.
