1. John Newberry Marker

Inscription. On this site by Cross Creek where two colonial wagon roads intersected, John Newberry, a Quaker millwright, erected a waterwheel mill and dam in 1755. His enterprise was the genesis of the settlement of the village of Cross Creek, which after the War of Independence became Fayetteville. A waterwheel mill operated here for 185 years until 1940.
