1. Indigenous Trading Routes Marker

Inscription.
For thousands of years prior to the Europeans' arrival Indigenous People living east of the Mississippi River built their villages and towns along the migration routes of the Eastern Woodland Bison and started using the traces as trading routes. The bison also provided food, shelter and clothing for the Indigenous People.

Broad Street that runs parallel to the nature trail and crosses Pig Pine Tree Creek just west of the trail when you reach the creek is an indigenous trading route that goes from Charleston, SC, to Salisbury, NC, and from there all the way to Philadelphia, PA.
