She was the 1st female judge for the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals (nominated by President George H.W. Bush), worked the Soup Kitchen at First Baptist Church, was a member of Orangeburg Rotary, former director of Orangeburg County Mental Retardation Board, and Regional Medical Center Hospital Foundation. She also received an Honorary Doctorate of Law from Claflin University, among other numerous local, state, and federal awards.
