1. Cottontails and Jackrabbits Marker
Cottontail rabbits are about half the size of jackrabbits. Cottontails have smaller ears and shorter legs.
The enormous ears of the jackrabbit look similar to a donkey's ears. A male donkey is called a "jack," and this may explain the origins of the name "jackrabbit." The large ears release heat from the animal while also providing shade.
Rabbits were one of the most important sources of protein for native peoples. Several tools and techniques were used to subdue these fast moving animals, including bows and arrows, snares, nets, throwing sticks, and plenty of team work.
