1. Iron Cannon Marker

Inscription. This is an authentic Iron Cannon. Cast Iron was used in the production of artillery weapons and projectiles. This cannon would have predominantly used a round shot (cannon ball) although there are other types that could have been used such as bar shot, spike shot, chain shot and canister shot. The cannon is approximately 5 feet long, with a 3 1/2 inch bore. The bore diameter would indicate that it fired a 2-3 lb shot and would have used 1.2 lbs of black powder for each shot fired. The weight is approximately 680-700 lbs. The size of this gun is indicative of what was referred to as a "Falcon," although during the colonial period there was no real standardization of cannon size
