Inscription.
Who lived on Cottage Row? The commissary, the secretary, a fleet of engineers, gardeners, bakers, and farmers lived in these cottages from the late 19th century to early 20th century, when the site was known as Sailors' Snug Harbor. Each of the five cottages is based on the architectural style of the second empire in France (1852-1870 AD).

Cottage Row itself used to lead straight to the Snug Harbor cemetery, still located by present-day Allison Pond Park, and was the funeral procession route for Sailors' Snug Harbor residents when they passed.

Today, Cottage Row is home to so much more. Community events, film shoots, and performances create a festive atmosphere along the roadway and inside the cottages. Visual and performing artists in residence develop vibrant new work while housed in the cottages.
