1. Forebay Drainage Basins Marker

Inscription. In response to deteriorating environmental conditions, the Chesapeake Bay Act was adopted to regulate development impacts, protect existing wetlands and improve water quality. This shallow pool forebay is an example of a BMP (Best Management Practices) detention basin. It stores stormwater runoff and purifies it by allowing sit to settle out before being discharged into the wetland. As development interests collide with environment ethics, these facilities create a balance between natural and man-made systems. Emergent plants, migratory birds, invertebrates and small animals will turn this new habitat into a pocket ecosystem that is teeming with activity.
