In recognition of the one year anniversary of the CUNY Mexican Studies Institute, based at Lehman College.
This impressive sculpture is a replica of the colossal Olmec head, known as "The King", unearthed in San Lorenzo Tenochtitlan, Vera Cruz, Mexico in 1964.Head sculptures are emblematic of the ancient Olmec civilization. which flourished from roughly 1200 BCE to 400 BCE, and as a gift to the CUNY Mexican Studies Institute, the sculpture marks the bond of friendship and close cultural connection between Mexico and New York.
