1. Aransas Pass Light Station Marker
Ordered by the U.S. Lighthouse Board, the Aransas Pass Light Station began service in July 1857. Its fourth order fixed lens sent light thirteen miles into the darkness. After Civil War Confederate forces disabled the lighthouse in 1862, the tower was rebuilt and the light put back in service in June 1867. It served as a beacon to mariners until 1952, when erosion and deposits shifted the entrance to Aransas Pass further south. Now serving as a private aid to navigation, the light station has weathered countless storms and renovations, the changing geography of the pass, and at least sixteen keepers. The Aransas Pass Light Station is privately maintained and the grounds and tower are not open to visitors. Thank you for respecting its long history.
