An Entwined History
| — | Stamford Park Homestead | — |
The Bunya Bunya Pine is found naturally in south- eastern Queensland, and was most likely planted here) at Stamford Park during the Victorian era (1837-1901). The Port Jackson Fig may have been self-sewn, and grew so close to the pine that they became interwoven, the roots of each tree supported the other enabling both to reach towering heights.
This 'Gardenesque' style of exotic, non-native planting was favored during the Victorian period as a way of distinguishing a garden as unique and tendered, setting it apart from the surrounding native bushlands.
The Bunya Bunya Pine eventually declined in health and was removed in 2019. Part of the trunk and root system remain in place as an anchor for the roots of the Port Jackson Fig.
This unique and beautiful symbiotic partnership is commemorated by the 'Stamford Park Love Seat, hand crafted and offering a symbol of the interwoven histories of this land, beauty of nature, and a reflection of strength, support and a lifelong journey.

Also see . . . Stamford Park Homestead at Knox City Council Website. Stamford Park Homestead is a magnificent example of 19th-century architecture featuring Gothic gables, fretted barge boards, intricate wrought iron and five-metre high ceilings.
It is one of the last remaining substantial 19th century houses in the region.
The homestead was in an advanced state of disrepair when it was acquired by Knox Council in 1988.
Several rooms have been completely restored to give visitors an appreciation of the homestead as it was in its heyday.
Further restorations on the house and six acres of parkland were carried out as part of the Stamford Park Redevelopment Project. (Submitted on March 24, 2026, by Dean Barton-Ancliffe of Rowville, Victoria.)
