Inscription. During the 1880s, as many as seven families lived within the Gardens.

This four-roomed cottage was built in 1888 as the senior gardener's residence. Being located beside a gate, it provided a handsome entrance and protection for the Gardens from 'unprincipled larrikins'.

Other lodges provided homes for the watchman and foreman gardener. In the days when the lawn-mowers were pulled by horses, the mower and carter and his family lived close to the stables.
