On March 16, 2013, Detective Domkowski was involved in a motor vehicle accident while on duty and underwent a cervical fusion on April 12, 2013. Due to the injury and other serious medical complications, Detective Domkowksi was admitted to Gaylord Rehabilitation Center in Wallingford, CT. He was then admitted to St. Vincent's Hospital on June 28, 2013. He retired from the department on April 2, 2014 and passed away due to the injury sustained from the motor vehicle accident on May 28, 2015.
