Mirror Lake
1870
University lore says that the site for the campus was chosen because of a spring at Mirror Lake's location that supplied water to Neil Farm.
1874
The spring-fed bog was cleaned out, creating Mirror Lake.
1895
A donation for McMillin Observatory and grounds enabled a major enlargement of the lake and the addition of rustic bridges.
1918
After a windstorm uprooted trees throughout the hollow, the lake was renovated and given the shape that would last for almost a century.
1926
The Browning Dramatic Society constructed the Browning Amphitheater in Mirror Lake Hollow.
1930
As the flow of water faltered because of surrounding development, the classes of 1927, 1929, and 1930 donated a fountain as a gift.
1935
A Federal Relief Administration (FERA) project paved the lake bottom in brick and installed the stone lake walls/outfall.
1977
A large jetted spray fountain was installed for aeration. The lake's water source changed numerous times.
2018
Mirror Lake renovations returned the lake to a more natural form.
