Mirror Lake. . , 1870 , University lore says that the site for the campus was chosen because of a spring at Mirror Lake's location that supplied water to Neil Farm., 1874 , The spring-fed bog was cleaned out, creating Mirror Lake., 1895 , A donation for McMillin Observatory and grounds enabled a major enlargement of the lake and the addition of rustic bridges., 1918 , After a windstorm uprooted trees throughout the hollow, the lake was renovated and given the shape that would last for almost a century., 1926 , The Browning Dramatic Society constructed the Browning Amphitheater in Mirror Lake Hollow., 1930 , As the flow of water faltered because of surrounding development, the classes of 1927, 1929, and 1930 donated a fountain as a gift., 1935 , A Federal Relief Administration (FERA) project paved the lake bottom in brick and installed the stone lake walls/outfall., 1977 , A large jetted spray fountain was installed for aeration. The lake's water source changed numerous times., 2018 , Mirror Lake renovations returned the lake to a more natural form.
