Inscription.
What is now known as the Martí Colón Cemetery was once two separate cemeteries. Martí Cemetery, which dates from the 1890s, is the older of the two and is located on the northern end of the property. That cemetery once extended through today's Columbus Drive, which did not pass through the cemetery at that time, to Kathleen Street. It is the final resting place for Cuban and other Latin residents of Tampa and the former City of West Tampa.

The City of Tampa acquired Martí Cemetery in 1936 for the purpose of extending Columbus Drive through the property, which was completed the following year. Soon after, the city leased the Martí Cemetery property to A.P. Boza, who also purchased additional land to create Colón Cemetery. Though the City of Tampa now owns both cemeteries, their complex histories and undefined boundaries have given rise to stories of burials located outside of the currently defined borders.
