In the Wild
Found from southwest United States, throughout Central America and northern South America. They are found in jungle, scrubland and reed thickets.
Reproduction
Jaguars can have up to four offspring, two being average. They open their eyes between 3 and 13 days and nurse for 5 to 6 months. Maturity is reached between 2 and 4 years. The average life span in protected environments can exceed 20 years.

Spots
Spots on a Jaguar form rosette patterns. Melanistic (black) individuals are common, but their rosette patterns can still be seen in the right lighting.
Behavior
Jaguars are excellent climbers. Most hunting is done on the ground and at night. Jaguars are generally solitary and territorial. They mark their territory with urine and tree scrapes. They have a variety of vocalizations including roars, grunts and mews.
