Inscription.
Thurmont is located at the foothills of the Catoctin Mountains. The town is ideally located 15 miles south of Gettysburg, PA, 15 miles north of Frederick, MD and approximately 60 miles from Washington, D.C. and Baltimore.

The town of Thurmont was established in 1751 and is known as the "Gateway to the Mountains" offering a wealth of scenery, historic covered bridges, wildlife, historic buildings, hiking trails, scenic drives, camping, fishing, and biking all for visitors to explore when visiting. For a taste of Thurmont, there are several orchards, wineries, and delicious locally owned restaurants.

In 2004, the Thurmont Lions Club decided to celebrate their 75th anniversary by refurbishing the Trolley Trail. For the 85th anniversary of the Thurmont Lions Club, they would create the beautiful "Murals on Main Street" on the former Trolley Substation (across the street from the Trolley Trail). The Murals on Main Street are the work of local artist Yemi Fagbohun.

Funding for the Thurmont Lions Club project for refurbishing the Trolley Trail and Murals on Main Street was a collaboration by the Thurmont Lions Club, grants from the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development, Maryland DNR Program Open Space, Acacia Masonic Lodge #155, area businesses, and Thurmont residents.
