Janet Nowakowski. . Coach Janet Nowakowski was the face of girls' athletics at Rehoboth High School in the 1960s, coaching varsity and JV field hockey, basketball, and softball. Even though RHS was an extremely small school, Coach Nowakowski led her field hockey teams to a combined record of 23-5-1 over a four-year period, with one Henlopen Conference Championship and seven players named to first-team All Conference. A second mother to many and a mentor to all, Nowakowski made it acceptable for girls to be athletes at a time when it was not the norm. During the challenging times of school integration, she was a role model for respect and kindness both on and off the field. Coach Nowakowski was a monumental influence and an incredible inspiration to RHS Seahawks.
