Erinnerung an die betroffenen Frauen und Mädchen
⎯⎯⎯
In Memory of the Affected Women and Girls
Inscription.
Between 1961 and 1982, the closed venereology ward of the City Hospital Polyclinic Mitte was located at Kleine Klausstraße 16. Women and girls (from the age of 12) were admitted here on suspicion of having a sexually transmitted disease. In many cases, however, there was no medical necessity, and they were committed without being informed and without their consent. They were treated in an inhumane manner and were intended to be re-educated into “socialist personalities.” As a result, they suffered severe and lasting harm. This stone was erected in memory of this injustice and in commemoration of the women and girls who were affected.
