Cambridge in Dorchester County, Maryland — The American Northeast (Mid-Atlantic)
The Meredith House
A Plantation Home
| | In Memory of Clara Mae Stephens. | |
This Georgian-style home was built about 1760. You may notice that the original brick portion is quite symmetrical. The addition is believed to have been from the late 1800s. The house is furnished with many unique artifacts from Dorchester County, and it has a rich history as the home of numerous influential families.
The Governor's Room, for instance, displays pictures, furniture, and other objects of several governors of Maryland that hailed from Dorchester County, including the two that lived in this house. Another highlight is the room of Annie Cornish, one of the house's last residents (pictured right).
Erected by Dorchester County Historical Society.
