The Friends are the Cathedral's fan club, a group of like-minded people who admire the building, its history and the community which surrounds it.
The Friends' Garden was created with support from a charitable donation provided by Queen Elizabeth II. Designed as a haven for wildlife, this garden also offers a tranquil setting for visitors to take a seat and enjoy the view.
At the centre of the garden is a statue commemorating the Royal East Kent Regiment, known as 'The Buffs', whose origins date back to 1572.
The garden is the ideal place to share the work of Maria Sibylla Merian, whose 1679 book is held in the Cathedral Library. German-born Maria first made a name for herself as a botanical artist, whose pioneering research is responsible for our understanding of the life cycle of insects.
