Inscription.
This campus is named in honor of Mary D. Nichols for her dedication and service to CARB, Californians, and the world.

Mary D. Nichols devoted her life to protecting public health, reducing air pollution, and fighting against climate change. During her tenure as Chair of the California Air Resources Board (1979-1983 and 2007-2020) under three governors, she guided CARB with a relentless determination to develop rules and standards that drove clean, innovative technologies and cleared California skies. Her visionary leadership established CARB as the global leader in vehicle testing and science-based clean air regulations.
