1. Living on the Prairie/Ṭíŋta Ekta Ṭípi Marker
Although Grand Meadow Chert drew people here, a diverse ecosystem made it possible for them to stay. The waving prairie grasses, oak trees, and meandering creeks provided ideal habitat for deer, elk, bison, birds, fish, and small mammals. Indian breadroot, prairie rose, sage, and many other plants flourished and were renewed by periodic fires. The prairie edge provided the foot, water, medicine, and raw materials that people needed to survive. The restoration of this prairie-oak savanna is guided by what we have learned from past generations. Its long-term sustainability is dependent on future ones.
