1. Colored Citizen's League Holds Jubilee! Marker
On August, 10, 1910, the Colored Citizens League of Maryland celebrated their 10th anniversary with an outdoor gathering and barbecue here in Herring Run Park! Roughly 4,000 Black Americans came together to enjoy delicious roast beef, give speeches, and dance to live music. Topics of discussion included the Black community's endorsement of McKinley in seeking a second term for president as well as the state of race relations in Maryland. A gathering of this size was no small accomplishment in a public park in a racially segregated city.
