From Canal Feeder to Premier Recreation Destination
Step back in time to explore Indian Lake's fascinating history. Thousands of years ago, retreating glaciers shaped this landscape, leaving kettle lakes - small, water-filled depressions from melting ice chunks. Later, it became a cultural crossroads where Native American tribes traded along a route linking the Ohio River to Lake Erie. The area is rich with stories of frontiersmen like Daniel Boone and Simon Kenton, who traveled here long before it became a beloved recreation spot.

Natural Beauty

By 1898, it had become a public recreation area, offering over 6,000 acres of outdoor adventure. Known as the "Midwest's Million Dollar Playground," the lake drew visitors far and wide with its natural beauty and central location along the old Toledo and Ohio Central Steamline.

Today, Indian Lake remains a cherished destination under the care of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, offering a perfect blend of history and
