Inscription.
Nestled at the northern tip of Amelia Island, Fernandina Beach, incorporated in 1824, ranks among Florida's oldest cities. Dubbed the "Isle of Eight Flags," its 4,000-year Native Timucuan roots gave way to European, pirate, and Spanish colonial eras. In the Victorian age, it emerged as a thriving seaport and became the birthplace of the modern shrimping industry. Today, Fernandina Beach's historic architecture, the imposing Fort Clinch, and local museums celebrate Florida's history and heritage.
