1. Het Goudse Badhuis / The Gouda Bathhouse Marker
In 1922 wordt op deze plek het Goudse badhuis geopend. Geïnspireerd op de ideeën van de Nederlandse architect Dudok en vormgegeven in de stijl van de Amsterdamse School. Ruim dertig jaar vervult het pand haar functie als badhuis, een plaats waar de bevolking elkaar ontmoet en waar men zich middels hygiëne kan wapenen tegen ziektes. In 1973 wordt het badhuis gesloten en raakt het pand in verval. De stad Gouda dreigt een monument te verliezen. Maar in 2012 opent het Goudse badhuis opnieuw haar deuren. Onder leiding van Samir Mesic is het pand op indrukwekkende wijze en met zeer veel zorg gerestaureerd. Het Goudse badhuis is met respect voor Hollandse tradities en liefde voor oosterse gebruiken sfeervol in ere hersteld.
The Gouda Bathhouse
In 1922, the Gouda Bathhouse opened at this location. In 1920, an original bathhouse was built at Lange Groenendaal 79 in Gouda in the style of the Amsterdam School. Because many homes at that time did not yet have a bath or shower, the bathhouse was originally intended as a school and public bath and served primarily a hygienic function. Thus, the building opened its doors in 1922 and would serve as a bathhouse for approximately thirty years from that moment.(Submitted on September 2, 2026.)
Upon entering, one couldpurchase a ticket at the counter, after which one took a seat in the waiting area. Once it was one's turn, one could use a shower or a bathtub. At the rear of the bathhouse, the school bath was located at that time: a large, oval room with a skylight and a large zinc bath. In addition to a hygienic function, the bathhouse also acquired a strong social function in the early years of the last century. People met each other in a relaxed atmosphere and caught up on the latest news. Spa Gouda has combined the functions of the old-fashioned bathhouse with the serene tranquility of Eastern wellness on the site of the Gouda bathhouse.
