1. Oudste ziekenhuis van Nederland / Oldest Hospital in the Netherlands Marker
Van 1252 tot 1968, dus ruim 700 jaar, heeft hier een ziekenhuis gestaan. Jonkvrouw Rikarde van Holland sticht dit gasthuis in de Middeleeuwen. Voor arme zieken die nergens terecht kunnen voor verzorging. Ruim 700 jaar lang kunnen zij hier terecht voor behandeling en zorg. Het gebouw wordt vaak verbouwd en de zorg wordt steeds beter. Het ziekenhuis bestaat nog steeds, maar staat op een andere plaats in de stad. Het heet nu Reinier de Graaf Gasthuis. Het is het oudste ziekenhuis van Nederland dat nog bestaat.
Je staat nu op de plek waar de kapel van het ziekenhuis heeft gestaan. Door de eeuwen heen zijn hier veel mensen begraven. Dicht bij elkaar, buiten en ook binnen de kapel. Archeologen hebben de locatie onderzocht. Zij vonden skeletten, keukenspullen, speelgoed, potjes en flesjes uit het hospitaal.
Slechts ιιn gebouw van het Gasthuiscomplex overleefde de slopershamer. Gebouw De Zuster is de laatste herinnering aan het Delftse ziekenhuis op deze plaats.

You are now standing on the site where the hospital chapel once stood. Over the centuries, many people were buried here, close together, both outside and inside the chapel. Archaeologists have investigated the site. They found skeletons, kitchen utensils, toys, jars, and bottles from the hospital.
Only one building of the Gasthuis complex survived the wrecking ball. The De Zuster building is the last reminder of the Delft hospital at this location.
