Powell in Delaware County, Ohio — The American Midwest (Great Lakes)
1914 Mangels - Illions Carousel
Restoration June 2000
The idea of restoring this wonderful masterpiece was that of the late Jerry Betts. In the late 1980s, Jerry organized the Columbus Carousel Fund. Although Jerry died in 1990, his dream did not.
Special thanks to the carousel aficionados, zoo lovers and history buffs who made restoration of the carousel, band organ and construction of its new year-round pavilion home possible:
Carousel Pavilion - A gift from the Columbus Dispatch Charities, established in 1937 to foster the health, safety and development of children. Its primary focus is to provide financial support to non-profit organizations that foster the intellectual, moral, spiritual and physical health of children and young adults.
Wurlitzer 153 Special Band Organ - A gift from Dr. William D. and Helen H. Heintz to share their love of band organ music with children for generations to come.
