Bear Creek Pioneers Park
From Pioneers to Engineers
To mitigate flooding on Buffalo Bayou, the Army Corps of Engineers began construction of the Addicks Reservoir in the 1940s. Harris County leased and developed 2,154 acres within the watershed in 1965 to become Bear Creek Pioneers Park.
This park is a pristine host to its wildlife, including coyotes, skunks, armadillos, opossum, raccoons, deer, a large amount of insect species and migratory birds, and even alligators and bobcats.
The animal sanctuary at Bear Creek is home to a variety of rehabilitated animals, as well as residing and visiting wildlife in the adjacent pond. The sanctuary is made up of a farm, two aviaries, and a pond. Stop by or visit hcp4.net/bearcreek for information on aviary tours and zookeeper talks.
Harris County War Memorial
The Harris County War Memorial was built in 1985 to honor Harris County residents who lost their lives in war. Memorial Day and Veterans Day ceremonies are held at the memorial each year.
