Up until the 1950s, this was a garage and general store, serving the people of Bowers. Notice the two gas pumps in front of the garage, and if you look even closer you can see a model schooner that sat in the window until 1962, when it was lost to the flood. The home to the left of the garage was Bessie Tozour's home, which would become the Bowers Beach Maritime Museum. In the 1950's, the right side of the building, which was known as Kelly's, was removed and the remaining building was remodeled into a 3 story home and later converted into apartments. In the early 1960's, a new home was built to the rear of this building, but was later sold and removed. Years later, a fire destroyed the original 3 story building. This building site is now home to the town's bocce courts.
