Crossing the Tennessee in the rear of Gen. Sherman's column on the 24th, the regiment advanced with its brigade 13 miles toward Cleveland. The next day the enemy was driven out of that place, and the railroad and cars in that quarter and toward Dalton were thoroughly disabled.
On the 27th the brigade in retiring to Chattanooga was sharply attacked by Gen. J.R. Kelly's Cavalry and followed to Candy's Creek, from which point it retired unmolested to Chattanooga.
