Additional commentary.
1. Background Of The Design
The design of the Ware Shoals Veteran’s Memorial recognizes the five branches of our armed forces represented by the five pointed star which is seen throughout the memorial. The selected tree, the Columnar Sweet Gum, stands tall just as our heroic veterans, with leaves resembling the recognizable star design.
A seating area along the walk provides a special place to remember those who have not returned, while seat height granite walls add a defining vertical edge to the plaza. A Five Sided Black Granite Monument lies in the center of the plaza with a bronze seal of each branch of the armed forces. Each side of the base represents the characteristics that make up the strong foundation of each of our veterans.
