1. Dorothy Madden Hobson Luther Marker
Inscription. This 11.8 acre tract was the homesite of Dorothy and Frederic. It is a gift to Shades State Park in her memory by the Estate of Frederic Luther. Dorothy Madden Hobson, 1905-1999, a native of Parke County, Indiana, was Chief Naturalist at Turkey Run State Park and served as a Naturalist-Guide at Clifty Falls State Park and at McCormick's Creek State Park in the 1940s.

She spent the summers of 1947-1950 studying tropical birds in Central America. In 1950 she was the first woman elected President of the Indiana State Audubon Society. A graduate of Butler University, and Columbia University, she also studied ornithology at Cornell University. She taught for thirty years at George Washington High School in Indianapolis.
