Inscription. Constructed for the apothecary (pharmacist), this building was both his home and office. For medicinal purposes, the apothecary dissolved and distilled various herbs and plants--some grown in his garden and others found in nearby fields.

"During the month careful survey was made of the native herbs, with an eye to their medicinal value, and several useful ones were found, for instance, 'Squasweed' for rheumatism, 'Milkweed' for pleurisy, 'Indian Physic' for preventing fevers, 'Robert Plantain' a valuable antidote, as is also 'Snake Root', and much Holly."
