1. New Tavern Well 1755 Marker
Inscription. Eighteenth century roads were always either dusty or muddy, a traveler would welcome the site of a fresh water well beside a tavern. This well still contains part of its early wooden pump stock. A similar stock was retrieved by the archaeologists in the 1960s from another Bethabara well.

"Twelve men (non-Moravian) in the tavern began smashing bottles and quart cups together. Schaub (tavern keeper) told them he was going to close up, and they should not have another drop of liquor; they then promised to behave..."
