Grave of Gen. Enoch Poor
In memory of the Honorable Brigadier Gen. Enoch Poor of the State of New Hampshire who departed this life on the 8 day of Sept. 1780 aged 44 Years.
In 1824, Lafayette re-visited this grave and turning away much affected, exclaimed, “Ah, that was one of my Generals.”

4. Grave of Gen. Enoch Poor Marker
Gen. Poor died suddenly during the Revolutionary War when the Continental Army was encamped in Hackensack. The Army surgeon reported that he died of typhus, but it is also rumored that he might have been shot in a duel near Hackensack on September 6, 1780 and died two days later.
