Inscription.  Patriot, Ind., native; supervised Hoover Dam construction in Colorado R.; Lake Mead named for him; appointed Director, U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, President Coolidge; served under Presidents Hoover and Roosevelt, top authority on irrigation, reclamation.
 
Erected 1980 by Switzerland County Historical Society. (Marker Number 78.1980.1.)
