The Augusteum was built between 1564 and 1586 under the auspices of August I., Elector of Saxony. This building fulfilled various purposes for the Leucorea, Wittenberg's University. It was used as the medical faculty's institute for anatomy, as university library and for student accommodation, as well as an assembly hall. The Protestant Seminary, established in 1817, has always been located in this building and still today serves the practical education of pastors for their work in the church.

Das Augusteum wurde in den Jahren 1564 bis 1586 im Auftrag von August I., Kurfürst von Sachsen, erbaut. Das Gebäude diente verschledenen Zwecken der Wittenberger Universität Leucorea. So waren hier das anatomische institute der medizinischen Fakultät, die Universitätsbibliothek und Wohnräume für die Studenten sowie ein Festsaal untergebracht.

Das 1817 gegründete evangelische Predigerseminar wurde nach der Auflösung der Universität ebenfalls hier angesiedelt. Es dient bis heute der praktischen Ausbildung von Pfarrerinnen und Pfarrern für ihren Dienst
