Corse's Brigade, H. Ewing's Division, 15th Corps.

Colonel Charles C. Walcutt.
November 25, 1863.

This Regiment with its Brigade moved down the slope of the hill next north of this position early in the morning of the 25th, being exposed to a plunging fire of artillery and musketry.

Reaching the crest it charged upon the works in front of this position, finally withdrawing to the edge of the crest in the rear from which it continued to fight until withdrawn toward the close of the afternoon.

Casualties: killed 1 officer, 3 men; wounded, 4 officers, 31 men; missing, 1 man; total 41.

This historic marker (tablet) is located in the Sherman Reservation, up on the hill called the "Sherman Heights," and is situated a short distance below the Iowa monument, near the west crest of the hill. 2. 46th Ohio Infantry Marker
View of the historical marker, situated near the west crest of the hill, in the Sherman Reservation.
You will reach a spot on this road where there is a locked gate barring further vehicle traffic on the road, but not foot traffic. Continue to walk all the way to the end of North Crest Road. Once there you will see a pathway that goes from the end of the road to the center of the gorge that separates "Tunnel Hill" to your south and "Sherman Heights" to your north. This historic marker is to the north on "Sherman Heights."

According to the description information provided by the National Park Service, the marker is, “Bronze inscription tablet with decorative border mounted on low marble pedestal. Describes the unit's activities during the Battle of Missionary Ridge, November 25, 1863.”

Also, according to the National Park Service, the "Bronze plaque stolen in 1994," and then, "Tablet recast and installed 2012."

Another, more distant, view of the historical marker, situated a short distance up the slope of the "Sherman Heights," near the west crest of the hill, looking south, in the direction of the Confederate position, up on the top of "Tunnel Hill."
