1. Grant's Canal Marker

Inscription. In early 1863 Federal General U.S. Grant dug a canal here connecting the Mississippi River and Lake Providence. This attempt to use bayous and rivers to bypass Vicksburg failed.

Erected 1961 by the Department of Commerce and Industry.
