Grassy Run Battlefield
Inscription.
In these fields on the southwest side of the east
Fork of the Little Miami River, opposite the mouth
of Grassy Run, was fought the Battle of Grassy
Run April 10, 1792. Simon Kenton led a group of
frontiersmen from Limestone (Maysville), KY area
against an encampment of Shawnee led by Tecumseh.
The battle was fought at night in the rain and due
to circumstances, confusion reigned. The Shawnee
women and children fled across the East Fork at
Lime Kiln Ford, about one-half mile east, while
the men drove off the Kenton party.
In 1811 this was the site of a Wyandot village,
the last Indian village in Clermont County.
Erected 2003 by Clermont County Bicentennial Committee.
