1. Cy Goddard’s Dance Hall Marker
Inscription. Cy Goddard’s Saloon and Dance Hall is one of several places reported to have been the spot where General Custer's brother Tom and some troopers of the Seventh Cavalry tangled with "Wild Bill" Hickok on July 17, 1870. After wounding two soldiers, one mortally, Hickok felt compelled to leave Hays City. He later became City Marshal of Abilene. Goddard's Dance Hall was the site of numerous murders in the summer of 1873. Dance Hall girl Lou Sherwood was probably here, when she stabbed herself to death on February 15, 1874.
