On 3 October 1943 the U.S.S. Rasher departed Darwin, Australia, to begin her first patrol. By the end of the war she completed 8 patrols. She was credited with sinking 18 ships totalling 99,901 tons and damaging 62,481 tons of shipping. The Rasher ranked second among U.S. submarines for total tonnage sank during World War II. The Rasher earned 2 Presidential Unit Citations, the Asiatic-Pacific Area Service [sic - Campaign] Medal, and 7 Battle Stars during her 8 patrols. She was stricken from the Naval Register in 1971.
