Este convento, hoy Casa de la Cultura, fue edificado por Fray Gerónimo de Morales. Se inició la construcción del Templo y Convento el 1º de Noviembre de 1609 y se terminó en 1640.

English translation:
Ex-Convent of the Temple of Saint Augustine
This convent, now the city’s House of Culture, was built by Friar Gerónimo de Morales. The construction of the temple was started on November 1, 1609 and finished in 1640.
 
Erected 1990 by Patronato de la Casa de Cultura de Celaya.

Just north of the Ex-Convent is this statue of Mexican Independence leader Ignacio Allende. The monument only reads "1810-1910", indicating that it was constructed during the 100th anniversary celebrations of the traditional beginning of the struggle for Mexican independence from Spain in 1810.
