1. Magnolia virginiana Marker
Inscription. American Indians used the leaves of this small tree to make a medicinal tea for the treatment of chills, colds, and other ailments. Early American physicians used it as a quinine substitute as well as to treat gout, rheumatism, and respiratory problems. Its leaves have also occasionally been employed as a seasoning.
