1. Cladrastis kentukea Marker
Inscription. The Cherokee used the wood of this tree for building and carving. Early settlers in the southern Appalachians used the root bark for dye and the yellow heartwood for gunstocks. Today, yellowwood is popular in urban settings for its resistance to pests and ability to tolerate a range of soil conditions.
