The Verdugo family grew crops and raised cattle along this stretch of river for 80 years.
J Hartley Taylor, 1890s.
An ambitious entrepreneur opened a grocery store on San Fernando Road at Elm Street. He raised chickens, hogs, pigeons, and grew grain on this land. He founded Taylor Milling Corp., producing animal feed and flour for nearly 50 years.
Railroad, 1920s.
Taylor gave up part of his land for a railroad maintenance facility. Taylor Yard employed thousands of local workers until 1985.
Coalition, 2000.
36 community organizations united and fought to reclaim this river land for shared recreation and habitat restoration.
